CHANCE VOUGHT F4U CORSAIR Credit: Richard Marmo collection This Corsair, probably an F4U-5, veered off the edge of a carrier deck after landing. The fact that he snagged the arresting cable is the only thing that saved him from going in the drink. Wing code is SI-16, color scheme is overall Glossy Sea Blue. Date of this photo is unknown, but is certainly after 1947 due to the modern national insignia that includes a red horizontal stripe over the white bar. A reasonable guess is that this dates to the early 1950s, probably during the Korean War.
