The Candy Clipper |
by |
Tony Weddel |
Despite opinions to the
contrary, biplanes were operated by the USN during WW-II. In this scene, a
Grumman J2F Duck, "The Candy Clipper", whose name resulted from earlier missions
devoted to flying candy and other supplies to General Douglas MacArthur, rescues a pilot
who had been shot down over Mindinao, Phillipines in 1942. Captured duing it's
take-off run, the rescued pilot is pointing skyward, warning his rescuer of an approaching
Japanese Zero. This 17" x 23" print is available in both Limited and Open
editions.
