David L. Veres on Cybermodeler
“Once you have become versed in the techniques and methods described
here, your abilities will have improved manyfold.”
That’s author Richard Marmo in Understanding Model Math & Scale Jumping,
Version 2.0 – third in his “Marmo Method Modelbuilding Guides”.
After introductory comments, his handy handbook on practical mathematics
for hobbyists covers the subject in seven easy-to-follow chapters:
The Basics
Tools
Number Crunching
Key To Model Math
Scale Jumping
Solutions To Other Problems Other Possibilities
Final Thoughts
The tips and techniques are clear – even to math-challenged guys like me.
“Marmo’s Four Laws” show how to achieve the results he describes. And
appendices with three handy tables help spare some common calculations:
inch/foot and ratio/proportion dimensions for a range of scales
decimal equivalents to three places for common fractions below one inch
multiplication factors for frequently used scales
But the possessive of “it” is “its” – not “it’s”. And I haven’t
encountered the expression “make no never mind” since watching “George of
the Jungle” as a kid!
“No longer will you be locked in to a limited number of scales”, Marmo
concludes. “Aircraft, armor, ships, science-fiction, even larger than life
insects or twelve foot diameter Tarantulas … anything you care to name or
imagine can be created using the model math and scale jumping techniques
I've described.”
And that’s well worth Marmo’s modest $2.99 price of admission.
